The Conservative administration on Cornwall Council has fulfilled a manifesto commitment as Cornwall Council has confirmed it will be closing Cornwall’s office in Brussels.
Leader of Cornwall Council Cllr Linda Taylor said:
“I am pleased that our new administration, voted for by the people of Cornwall is already fulfilling our manifesto commitments less than two months into the job and is closing Cornwall’s Brussels office.”
“This was a totem of the previous Liberal Democrat-led Cornwall Council administration, who were happy to pump ever increasing amounts of Cornish taxpayer money into it, without ever demonstrating a tangible positive return for Cornwall.”
“Like many things, it was symptomatic of the previous regime’s seeming desire to have a closer relationship with the EU and others away from our own Government, despite the UK and Cornwall’s express desire to leave this institution in the 2016 Brexit referendum.”
“This resonated with the public in the recent election campaign and we are clear that as your Conservative administration we will fulfil our promises, ensuring the proper delivery of essential public services at good value to the taxpayer, and working with our six Conservative Cornwall MPs and our Conservative Government to make Cornwall Council work for you!”
